REMINISCING!!

I borrowed this picture of "Bonny & Bruce" from my Dad. It has been moved around the house from table to table, since the day it was taken. I always remember it being "somewhere"! Bruce is about 6 months old and that would make me 3 years. I am wearing a dress sewed by my Mom and matching ribbons in my hair made by her also. She would look at the Sears Catolog and find a dress she liked, make a pattern and sew it for me. I received my first boughten dress for my 13th birthday. I was so excited but soon realized the homemade ones were much superior. She also sewed my winter coats. She used the wool from an old coat or suit and sometimes splurged and bought some new fur for the collar. She was a wonderful seamstress and the garments turned out to be gorgeous. My favorite was the charcoal gray coat with the pink "poodle fur" collar! Those were the good old days before disposable "everything"! Sigh!
What great memories to pass on to my Grandchildren!

Denny Creek Hike at Snoqualmie Pass on June 12, 2010

Jim and I headed up the trail as it rolls north under the high viaduct that carries I-90 traffic west. The trail crosses a creek and then winds through the forested valley before re-crossing the creek a the base of the waterslide.

Previous to the flood a year ago, this pile of dirt and trees that has re-routed the creek, was not here, nor were the rocks in the foreground. It was one smooth granite slab called the waterslide. The bridge used to cross the creek was also washed away and now we walked across on rocks and logs. The ranger said there was no plan to replace the bridge at this time as there is not enough funding for trail maintenance. I wonder what will happen to all of our beautiful trails? So sad!

After crossing the creek we moved up the trail just above the waterslide. As we looked up the mountain peaks were high above us.

The wildflowers were just beginning to bloom.

Looking up from the rocky trail we saw tall pines high above us.

The forest was a lush green from all the rain! And not many days ago the forest floor was covered with snow.
The trail to the falls was a rocky climb

This small stairstep falls, Keekwulee Falls, was rushing with the spring run off water and a beautiful sight. We sat here and ate our lunch. What could be better!?!

We headed back down the rocky trail and crossed the creek at the waterslide. By now the sun had melted more mountain snow and the the water covered the rocks we crossed on, so we got wet feet!

Another beautiful hike and more memories!

Snoqualmie - June 3, 2010

Mt. Si has a new look this month! The lupines are blooming....
Purple Meadows' Majesty!!

This plant, a regal June beauty, is cleverly equipped to add nutrients to the soil and work with native bumbleebees.

The hillside by the golf course is covered with native lupines or lupinus polyphyllus, and are just one of more than 20 varieties that grace Washington state. It's also one of the showiest varieties, standing a stately 3 to 4 feet tall. It is a wildflower pretty enough for an ornamental garden. They are really enjoying the summer rains!

Lupine is one of the first plants to take root in disturbed ground, and it plays a crucial role, enabling other plants to thrive by adding nitrogen to the soil. It was the lupine that first braved pumice plain at Mount St. Helens after the volcano's eruption, paving the way for other plants to come. "They fundamentally transform the environments they colonize by improving the soil".

It seems as if God has placed every flower just right....every flower a window opening into heaven.

Only one pink lupine!

Lupine blossoms are cleverly engineered to entice their champion pollinator, the native bumblebee. They are on task today!

Not sure what this wildflower is? Does anyone know its name?

These beautiful wild roses were sitting alone in all their splendor!

The "tissue paper" petals of this rock rose are too perfect to be real......amazing!!
It so looks like spring is here.... it keeps on raining so everywhere we look we see lush green!
Awesome!
